Towards the end of the year, especially a year like this one, it can feel like I’m running on fumes. Facing the longest night of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere) as the chillier weather moves in, I sometimes feel scared and overwhelmed — will I get through it?!
Yet there is something about the twinkle lights that wakes me up, makes me feel like I’m not hanging all alone. The lights remind me that I am part of a interconnected web of humans and, together, we are a renewable source of love, enthusiasm, and creative support.

Our ancestors, from all cultures and faiths, knew that the antidote to fear and uncertainty was to join together.
Gathering to pass the longest night, to mark the holidays, whether Shabe Yalda, Hanukkah, Solstice, Christmas, etc., we come together renew our connections and bind ourselves together. By sharing food, a prayer, mementos, a bed, some candlelight, and our stories we recharge the light of our human-ness and fortify our bonds.
On the eve of solstice, December 20th, I’ll be hosting two more participatory storytelling events in collaboration with H.B. Studios - at noon and at 6pm ET. They are FREE and open to anyone. I welcome you into a space of connection and community through performance!
