My son loves bees. He wants to touch them and get close and be their friend. I let him get pretty close. I've only been stung once or twice in my life. My husband, on the other hand, has been stung MANY dozens of times and is now allergic to bee stings. He freaks when he sees our son even a few feet away from a bee.
So often we arbitrarily assign value to ourselves and draw boundaries around what is possible based on hurtful experiences. And we treat ourselves and our own potential through the lens of hurt rather than everything else that's possible, everything that is yet to be.
If the challenges of this year have shown us anything, it has shown us that the boundaries we’ve placed on what’s possible (good, bad, and ugly) can be moved at will.
Each one of you have moved mountains this year; within yourselves, with your families, in your work, and out there in the world.
I thank you for believing in yourself and in the unknown no matter how scary, no matter how sharp the sting of the past.
I found this scrap of paper in an old journal I was looking through.
It reads: “I want to create something so beautiful that everyone who reads it will have their heart opened to their own magnificent potential.”
Because I have a community of friends, allies, and backers like you, I have the guts to create this ambitious, future-oriented project that holds out hope for others.
Thank you for being a light bearer, a guide, a soft voice saying: “go closer, it’s okay.”
May this week be one filled with peace, ease, and hope.
What’s one word, phrase or image that reflects what you want to get closer to this year?
