More than 8 years ago I️ stepped away from performing to focus on writing, working in community, and training others to use storytelling methods for social change.
Now, on the eve of my 40th birthday, I’m coming back to the stage!
My new solo show There is a Portal is a deeper (and more personal) meditation on our frayed social relations as the 'War on Terror' turns inward and the culture of fear digs deeper into our psyches.
Come see an excerpt, November 28th as part of Queens Writers Resist.
I'm performing the only character from my original show who has made it into this new work. She is a Sikh character deftly and hilariously dealing with threats to her temple ...
Yes, I guarantee it's funny!!!
This is the first small step.
My big dream is to use the performance to build community. Since a key part of my work is in participatory and interactive theater methods, I am building out an audience engagement component. The audience won't just listen to and watch me, but will move and talk to each other as the theater space also becomes a convening space for public dialogue.
It is the next step in my ongoing practice of using theater and story to repair and maintain our civic practices and our human relations.
Help me get this show into the world.
I’m looking for:
-- advocacy and movement building groups to partner with so that the show serves a larger purpose,
-- spaces and places to workshop the show and get it ready to travel,
-- funding to sustain and build all the elements of the production,
-- producers who want to work on such an endeavor.
If this is you or you know anyone . . .

Kayhan
