After the whirlwind of fabulousness in D.C. I went to Little Rock to co-lead my annual Civil Rights Educators' Institute and then ... 3 days after that ...

I joined the team of the Anna Deavere Smith Pipeline Project to support the production of Notes from the Field: Doing Time in Education!!

It is an extremely powerful and extraordinarily timely performance. Urgent and inspiring, it depicts the personal accounts of students, parents, teachers and administrators caught in America’s school-to-prison pipeline. Investigating a justice system that pushes minors from poor communities out of the classroom and into incarceration, Notes from the Field shines a light on a lost generation of American youth.

Everyone must see this show! Over the summer we engaged over 16,000 audience members in Cambridge in small group conversation about the issues the play raises, asking them to take one small step towards dismantling the pipeline.

In NYC, we're cooking up all sorts of ways to bring people into conversation and connect to local leaders, organizations, and residents to encourage action and build community. I'm eager to grow a broad and strong network that can use, share, and be nourished by this powerful piece of art. Interested to help? Email me!
